Voluntary Action North Somerset

Through the Community Fund the Co-operative Group provides funding to community groups that share their social values. A wide variety of groups are eligible to apply including environmental groups, organisations that deal with young or elderly people, organisations concerned with the care for people with disabilities, playgroups, credit unions and education projects.

Applicants to the Community Fund scheme do not have to be charities, but projects must have a charitable purpose. There are three charitable purposes covered by the scheme:

• Relief of poverty
• Advancement of education
• Other purposes beneficial to the community, such as environmental projects, protecting heritage sites, or promoting racial harmony

Applications are on a rolling basis with no deadlines. Application forms can be downloaded. Organisations applying for more than £500 must enclose a copy of their latest accounts or a three month record of its income and spending signed by the group’s treasurer. A bank statement will not be accepted as an alternative.
