Volunteer Community Researchers Wanted

The Community Learning Service are looking for English speaking and bi-lingual volunteers to research local learning opportunities and the learning needs of people whose first language is not English. The findings of this research will help inform future learning provision for disadvantaged groups in North Somerset. Volunteers will be fully trained and can gain an Open College Network qualification. The Project will begin on 9th Sept 2008 and will run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays 10am to 1pm for 12 weeks.

Volunteers Week 1 - 7 June 2008

We are celebrating Volunteers Week this year with a Volunteers Recruitment Fair, here at the Badger Centre on 4th June between 10am and 4pm, where you can come along and meet some local voluntary organisations to find out what volunteering opportunities they have. A chance to find out the answers to any questions you have about volunteering and also find out what volunteering can do for you.

On the 6th June we are holding a Beach Clean meeting at the entrance to be beach behind the old hospital, meeting at 11am, please bring sturdy footware, protective gloves and lunch for a picnic on the beach afterwards.

Nationwide and Heritage Lottery Fund

Nationwide Building Society has teamed up with the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to launch the Nationwide Community and Heritage Awards 2008, inviting the public to nominate people or groups who deserve recognition for community or voluntary work that has made a real difference to people’s lives.
Nominations for the very best and most inspirational volunteers in the UK can be made for either:
Community Champion – recognition for those who have made an impact in their local community; Heritage Hero – recognition for those who have volunteered to become involved in saving a part of their heritage and sharing it with others.

The closing date for nominations is Monday 28 April 2008.
