Reaching Out Linking In
Reaching out, Linking in is a new project which is being hosted in North Somerset by VANS.
The project aims to support voluntary and community organisations working with people in equalities or “hard to hear” groups, in order to help them to be better represented and more involved in their local community. As well as working with voluntary and community organisations to help them to build capacity, the project will work with infrastructure organisations to help them to ensure that they are aware of equalities issues and that they are doing all they can to address any inequalities in their work.
Reaching out, Linking in is working across the West of England, with Development Officers in each of North Somerset, Bath & North East Somerset and South Gloucestershire. The project is managed by the West of England Consortium, and has been funded by a grant from the Big Lottery Fund for two years from 2009 to 2011.
In North Somerset the project will focus especially on groups working with people with disabilities, black and minority ethnic groups, and faith groups. A special concern of Reaching out, Linking in is to offer support to people who are living in rural areas and who may be considered “hard to reach”, and who as a consequence could be especially disadvantaged.
