PULSE OXIMETER DELIVERY PROGRAMME
On behalf of Sirona care & health we are mobilising a network of volunteers to
deliver pulse oximeters to patients at home across Bristol, North Somerset and
South Gloucestershire. Our response is part of a national scheme expected to
run until March 2021, depending on demand.
Patients are referred by their GP and use the pulse oximeter to monitor their blood
oxygen levels over a 2 week period. The aim is to detect early deterioration and
hopefully avoid a hospital or ITU admission due to Covid.
The volunteer receives the call, picks up a small pulse oximeter device and delivers
it to the patient’s home - no patient contact is required. Delivery is time critical, the
volunteer needs to deliver the device within 12 hours.
We’re running a rota 7 days a week from 8am-8pm and volunteers sign up in 3 hour slots:
• 8am – 11am
• 11am - 2pm
• 2pm - 5pm
• 5pm - 8pm
The volunteer may not get a call in their slot but commit to being on standby. Volunteers will determine the area/locality that they can deliver to and they will be able to collect the pulse oximeters from a hub within that area. Volunteers confirm at the time of call whether they can do the delivery.
Sirona will re-imburse all reasonable expenses e.g. mileage costs/phone calls. DBS checks are required, Sirona will cover this cost if volunteers don’t already have one.
