Volunteers’ Week is celebrated between 1st and 7th June every year.  It's a week in which the UK celebrates volunteers and says thank you to them for the contribution that they make. The week also raises awareness about the benefits of becoming a volunteer and the diverse volunteering roles that are available.

As well as helping others, volunteering has been shown to have a positive impact on the lives of those who volunteer, assisting volunteers in gaining new skills and boosting self-esteem. There are many voluntary organisations in the UK that rely on volunteers to help others.

This year VANS celebrated volunteering by organising a couple of drop-ins for people who are considering volunteering - we were at Weston's Town Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday, 4th/5th June (10am-2pm) and The Curzon, Clevedon on Thursday, 6th June (10am-2pm).  People came along to both venues to find out more about volunteering and registered for VC Broker and some applied for roles. At The Curzon we offered refreshments to prospective volunteers and they were able to meet and talk to current volunteers working at the cinema and also at The Little Teapot, the volunteer-run cafe at Clevedon Community Hospital

Volunteering in the UK contributes a staggering £22.6bn a year to our economy and our sector proudly promotes individuals who do amazing things in their communities.

As well as helping others, volunteering has been shown to improve volunteers' wellbeing too. It’s human nature to feel good after helping someone out. Volunteering can also help you gain valuable new skills and experiences, and boost your confidence.

We work closely with the VCSE sector across the whole of North Somerset, so the volunteering opportunities we have listed on our VC Broker website are very diverse and we've got around 500 opportunities listed currently.  To check out the current vacancies click HERE

We also attend a number of community events around North Somerset where VANS staff can help find an opportunity to match the needs of those people who want to do some volunteering face to face.  We publish our attendance at community events on our Home Page.
