As the accredited volunteer centre for North Somerset, we host a volunteer brokerage service for North Somerset. We advertise local volunteering opportunities through our online portal and provide person-centred brokerage to match individuals with local opportunities. Unpaid roles (trustees, volunteers, etc.) are FREE to advertise for VCFSE organisations, and these are uploaded to our website and are promoted across our social media platforms and in our newsletter. We also work with our partners to identify and develop suitable roles that enable them to meet the demands on their organisation.

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES WITH MARLENS, CLEVEDON MARINE LAKE

Marlens’ main objective is to bring life to Clevedon Marine Lake but it can only do this with the help and willing support of volunteers – and these are their biggest asset.  They are currently looking for some more volunteers – a Volunteer Coordinator and a Trustee (Marketing & Comms), so if either of these roles take your fancy, then please have a look at the attached role descriptions and get in touch by emailing the Chair (chair@marlens.org.uk) if you would like to know more.

VANS ARE RECRUITING 8 – 12 GOOD NEIGHBOUR VOLUNTEERS TO SUPPORT PEOPLE LIVING IN RURAL AREAS ACROSS NORTH SOMERSET

VANS are working with WERN (West of England Rural Network) to trial a pilot scheme to help residents living in rural settings such as outlying villages across North Somerset by providing additional support to help improve their quality of life and to reduce social isolation and loneliness.

This kind of support will be similar to that that was provided by many people in local communities during COVID and who became the heroes who went above and beyond in a neighbourly way within our communities.

Volunteers don’t have to live in the same locality as the people needing support and travel expenses will be paid to the volunteers.

Volunteers will be caring, kind, cheerful and friendly and they will help with a range of different tasks i.e. shopping, collecting prescriptions, help with meal preparation, light household tasks, gardening, letter writing or simple form filling, reading to partially sighted or blind people or just being company for someone that allows their carer to have some ‘me time’.

If you have some spare time and think you would enjoy helping others by being a ‘good neighbour’ volunteer, then register your interest through our online volunteer centre or you can click the orange button above. If you want to know more before registering, then you can read the role description below or give Bernie a call on 01934 416486 or email her at: info@vansmail.org.uk

VANS ARE RECRUITING A NUMBER OF VOLUNTARY POSITIONS AS CARE HOME BEFRIENDERS

The government has given local authorities and the NHS money to fund people who are ready to leave hospital, to temporarily go into care homes while they are waiting for a care package to be put in place for when they return to their own homes permanently.

Volunteers are needed to support these people whilst in care homes in Weston-super-Mare, Clevedon, Sandford and Nailsea

Patients can spend long periods of time alone in their rooms with some not having family or friends visit them regularly. Volunteer hours will be flexible and they will support them one to one e.g., spending time chatting with them, so they feel less lonely, organising games or cards, or bringing books/newspapers for them to read. Volunteers will also pass on information that might help them once they are back home and keep them updated on their care package arrangements.

If you’re interested in helping, then email Denise at: vaccinationvolunteers@vansmail.org.uk or call her on 01934 416486
